Introduction:
Note: It has come to my attention that you will need to install RPG Maker 2003 on your computer in order to play this fine RPG. So right-click HERE and select "Save Target As" to get it. Then run that file to install it. Then proceed with the instructions on this page to install the game. Thank you.

Within a few weeks, this very page is where you will find the trial version of my latest creation, an old school RPG parody. Project codename: RPG 100X. Title: Super Amazing Murder Quest. In the meantime, listed below are instructions for downloading, installing, and playing the game, when it is ready. Please do take the time to read them, so as to shut you up in case you were thinking about complaining about the things you can't figure out.

Downloading The Game:
Really simple. When it is available, there will be a download button at the bottom of this page. Right-click that button, and select "Save Target As". Just remember where you save it, on your computer.

Installing The Game:
Well, thanks to Enterbrain, this part might be a little bit tricky. But I intend to walk you through it, so as long as you're not retarded, you should be able to pull it off. Here is the information, straight from my Beta Tester's Manual:

First, a disclaimer. I do not believe this game will cause any problems on anyone's computer. But all systems are different. There is no way for me to guarantee that the game will be compatible with your operating system. I recommend setting a system restore point before installing the game, and restoring your system to that point if it crashes your computer. Again, I have no reason to believe that this will happen, but better safe than sorry, right?

First things first. Download the zip file. Unzip all files to the same location. All of the files must be present, for the installation.

Now pay close attention. I don't know why, but RPG Maker 2003 leaves a lot to be desired, in terms of the installation. It can be a bit confusing. I suggest you either print this out, or write the instructions down, as the setup file will consume the screen when you run it. If you have a basic understanding of this type of thing, you know what to do. I am explaining this for the sake of the computer illiterate.

Double Click the setup exe file icon (the sword one). You should see a setup screen containing the name of the RPG, along with a lot of question marks. Inside the rectangle, it should read "C:\Program Files\rpg2003\". If it does not say that, make a note of what it does say.

Click on the left ???????? button. This will begin the installation process.

Now, double click the following, from your desktop. My Computer, C:, Program Files, rpg2003 (if the rectangle said something else, follow that path instead), and finally, the folder with the same name as the RPG you downloaded.

Find the icon of the man holding a sword, named RPG_RT. Right-click it, and select "Create Shortcut". Right-click the shortcut it creates, and select "rename". Give it the name of the RPG. (Maverick83 RPG, for example.) Right-click it again, and select Cut.

Right-click anywhere on your desktop, and select Paste. The icon should appear, and you should be able to play the game by double-clicking it.

Controls:
Simple. Use the arrow keys to move your character around. The Enter key is your confirm button. It selects options, advances text, searches, examines objects, talks to people around you, etc. The Esc key is your cancel button. Use it to bring up the menu, and also to close the menu. Game controllers may also work. The one I have installed on my computer does. If you want to use one, experiment to figure out what button does what. There is no way to configure your controller settings in the game, as far as I know. If the controller doesn't work automatically, I'd say you're out of luck, just use the keyboard.

Some Gameplay Instructions For Beginners:
-In order to become stronger and more capable, you must increase your attributes (HP, MP, Strength, Defense, Magic, Agility). Your attributes will increase when you gain a level, in accordance with the equipment you have. For example, the Generic Sword is rated S1. This means that your strength will increase by 1 if you gain a level while you have the Generic Sword equipped. So don't unequip your equipment, unless you want to be in LV 99, and incredibly weak!

-Talk to people you see. (Approach them and press the confirm button) They may offer help. Or amusement.

Important! These are things I can't do anything about! Sorry!:
1. The font. You will probably notice that some letters do not show up correctly, at times. I and l, for example. This is a problem within the RPG Maker 2003 program. Just try to ignore it, understanding what is written should be no problem.

2. Enemies may still be listed after being defeated. But only until you target another enemy. Again, as long as you can be unpretentious and get over it, it shouldn't be a problem.

3. Your lack of patience. Ok, this is something I could fix/appease. But I won't, because it is not an error. Have some patience. For example, in the beginning, you will not be strong enough to go through Very Dark Cave and face Lord Dragonface right away. Fight enemies and increase your level a few times, first. The game is designed so that it takes a little time and effort to proceed through it.

**Helpful note. As stated before, adding better equipment will help your stats increase faster. You begin with the most basic equipment, and no armor. At the castle shop, you can buy four armors, each of which raises a different stat by either 1 or 2. I suggest making getting one of these one of your first priorities. Think it through.

4. You may notice that sometimes you will attack an enemy, or vice versa, and no damage will be taken. This is an internal problem with the damage equation built into the program itself. I'd really like to have it such that all strikes must do at least 1 HP of damage, but it doesn't seem like that will be possible without more extra programming than it is worth. So deal with it. If the attacker's Strength is too far below the attackee's Defense, no damage will be taken.

Due to my busy schedule, the trial version is now available for download! Please contact me at maverick83@email.com if you encounter any problems. To download the game, RIGHT-CLICK HERE AND SELECT SAVE TARGET AS!

Important! Fixes.

So far, our only current beta tester has brought 3 errors to my attention. In order to correct them, I have updated the necessary maps. Please download the files below, by right-clicking the links and selecting "save target as". Cut them, and paste them into the RPG's folder, on your computer. (You'll know if you have the right folder, it will be filled with other map files, all named "map-followed by a number".) Choose to overwrite the existing files.
