Drowning
Adrift in a bittersweet sea of despair
Confused more with each passing wave
Hurtling toward the point of no return
Too lost to be found, too far gone to be saved
Because you’re drowning
And I’ve had more than my fill
Why not think about letting me teach you to swim
Instead of spending all of your time praying for gills?
Drowning
If that’s what you want to do
Then I suppose I’ll turn around and walk away
I’m sure as hell not getting pulled under with you
It didn’t look bad when you took the first step
All of a sudden you’re here and you hate it
Remember this ocean is only as vast
As all your decisions have made it
The best things and times you’ve had, all left behind
What lies ahead only looks danker
You could grow wings of reason and take to the sky
If you’d only let go of that anchor
And I really don’t care if your grief floods the world
And your misery grows without limit
But do me a favor, and try to hold back
‘Til such time as I’m done living in it
Because you’re drowning
No one’s fault but your own
Pulling others down with you
If everyone joins in, I’ll wander alone
Drowning
Yet to put up a fight
If you’re sure you can’t make it
May as well close your eyes and head for the light.
